We all have seen in the movies where a safe cracker can open a safe in a matter of minutes multiple times. In the real world these people are known as locksmiths, and in most cases have been doing their homework on the latest technology with current safes being used by high end customers.

In the real world it can take these locksmiths many hours to crack a safe. As technology continues to advance will there be a need for more advanced locksmith training as well? It is very well possible. Many of these new safes have mechanisms which if a piece of glass is cracked or another lock is triggered, can cause a person to shell out thousands of dollars if the safe gets completely shut down and locked up for good.

One Phoenix locksmith found this out after working on a safe for over 3 hours. Another locksmith said he has worked on a safe for over 11 hours to open it. Hardly what you see in the movies. This process is delicate, and doesn’t always work in a person’s favor. If you have been thinking of getting into the locksmith business, you might want to stick with the simple stuff like opening cars and homes, although home security systems are advancing as well.

The breed of Locksmiths is dying out, and those qualified to handle the extremely skilled jobs get payed well for what they do. Not everyone can crack a safe, and often times it requires years and years of on the job training and experience. Not everyone is cut out to be a locksmith, and that’s why we have careers in the medical industry and other fields require special sets of skills.
